America called her children home-
but they were far away
and few among them heard her.
America called her children home-
but they were distracted by their games
of mayhem and murder.
America called her children home-
to rebuild her empire,
brick by beam by girder.
But far away the children stood,
all for bad and none for good;
Up to their knees in the rising flood.
Drenched in oil and tears and blood.
America called her friends to help
her children far away, who
were engaged in endless blunder.
America called her friends to help,
but all those friendships
had been torn asunder.
America called her friends to help,
but they turned away.
They ignored and shunned her.
And far away the children played
unaware of the mistakes they had made.
All were happy, when they should have been sad.
None for good and all for bad.
